The tar kiln will be lit once again in Lillby 🔥

In the 1970s, the local heritage association Överpurmo Hembygdsförening restored the old tar kiln located behind Purmo School. The kiln was relit in 1976, and since then it has been fired every ten years—a major undertaking that the association has carried out entirely through volunteer efforts over the years.

📆 It’s happening again this summer: the tar kiln will be lit on Wednesday, July 1, at 7:00 PM.
During the following week, visitors can enjoy a varied programme featuring handicrafts, music, a seminar, and guest speakers.

📆 The first tapping of the tar will take place on Saturday, July 4, at 7:00 PM, when spectators can once again witness the exciting moment as the tar burners remove the plug from the outlet pipe and the thick tar begins to flow into the barrel. After that, the tar will be tapped every evening at 7:00 PM throughout Tar Kiln Week
